The Archdiocese of Chicago's Office of Protection of Children & Youth (OPCY) was created to assist parishes and schools in their efforts to fulfill the child protection policies of the Archdiocese. The OPCY is responsible for putting forth the requirements that all of us who work or volunteer at the parish must comply with.

Below you will find a copy of the full requirements.

These specific requirements are for all those who are volunteering, working with, or interacting with children or youth of the parish. This requirement is for anyone who is 18 and over, whether or not they are a participant in the event, or a designated chaperone or leader.

All those who will be attending events, participating in programs, or interacting with youth in any way must complete the following items to be considered "in compliance" with the OPCY requirements.

Failure to fulfill any of the required documents, forms, or training prior to the event or program, will result in the inability to participate.

Those items are:

• Criminal Background Check (CBC): Run through Virtus as part of the Virtus registration process, and is rechecked every 3-years.
• Child Abuse & Neglect Tracking System Form 689 (CANTS 689): This form is required annually and allows for the yearly check of the central registry with the Department of Children and Family Services.
• Virtus' Protecting God's Children Training (PGC): This training, often simply referred to as "Virtus", is a program required by all volunteers and employees. While typically offered in an in-person session, the training is now being offered online for a limited time.
• Keeping the Promise Alive (KPA): This recertification program is done through Virtus every 3-years.
• Mandated Reporter Training (MRT): The State of Illinois requires that anyone over the age of 18 volunteering, working, or interacting with minors, completes MRT. This training is to help understand the responsibilities one has when working with children and youth. Recertification is required every 3-years.
• Child Abuse & Neglect Tracking System Form 22 (CANTS 22): This form is to be signed after completion of MRT, and will be kept on file in the Parish Office.
• Archdiocesan Standards of Behavior (ASB): This form, Archdiocesan Standards of Behavior of Church Personnel Working with Minors and Vulnerable Adults, is signed and re-acknowledged yearly through Virtus.

For the Virtus Training, please CLICK HERE. This process will begin with registration. Please be sure to complete all information fully and correctly. See below for more about the registration steps and process.

• For Archdiocese/Organization, scroll down and select Chicago (Archdiocese).
• For Primary Location, scroll almost all the way to the bottom, and select St. Peter-Volo (Round Lake). At this time, please do not select a second location.
• On the next page you will be asked three questions. The answers should be NO, YES, and NO.
• The next step is to input two references. Please feel free to use the priests, brothers, or office staff. You may use St. Peter's email and phone number as well (  office@stpetervolo.org   -   (815) 385-5496  )
• Afterward, you will be prompted to read and complete the ASB. You may also find a pdf copy of it below.
• Finally, you will acknowledge that the information you entered is correct and accurate, and you will electronically sign the Declarations page. This can also be found in pdf below.
• You will then select your Virtus training, either English or Spanish.
• And the last step is to submit your CBC, or background check, which you will be prompted to do on the screen.
