On the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, and the birthday of St. John Cantius, the Canons Regular welcomed six postulants, ranging in age from 18 – 39. These men came from all over the country to follow Christ and His teachings in a radical way, to help become Restorers of the Sacred in His church.
Superior General of the Canons, the Very Rev. Joshua S. Caswell, SJC, welcomed the men saying “Today this community of brothers joyfully welcomes you. May this period of Postulancy be for you a time of grace and blessing.”
Br. Mark Visconti, Novice Director, is entrusted with the formation and care of this class of postulants. During this period of formal discernment Br. Mark will lead the candidates to a fuller understanding of the common life as they live as brothers, joining in work and prayer.

Through participation in the Liturgical Office and Mass the postulants will gain a greater understanding of what it takes to become ‘zealous restorers of the Sacred’ with the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius.
The Canons are thankful to God for His Providence which brought these men to The Canons Regular of St. John Cantius. Please keep these postulants in prayer as they continue to grow in holiness and discern God’s call in their lives.
Please Note: Because the postulancy is a period of initial discernment when postulants determine whether they wish to more deeply incorporate themselves into the community, they are not yet addressed as “Brother” until they are vested in the habit and begin their novitiate on December 23rd. In the meantime should you have the opportunity to meet any of the postulants, please simply address them by their first name.
