Mission Appeal from the Archdiocese of Tororo, Uganda
This weekend is St. Peter’s annual Mission Appeal, and we are honored to be joined by Fr. Michael Oluka, Missionary Priest with the Archdiocese of Tororo, found in the Eastern part of Uganda. Fr. Michael will speak at each Mass, sharing more about the work being done to support our brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as the needs throughout the Archdiocese of Tororo.
Missions Envelopes are available for those who wish to support this year’s mission. You may place your Missions Envelope into the collection basket at any of the Masses this weekend, as well as next.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support!

The Archdiocese of Tororo, found in the Eastern part of Uganda has about 4 million people, of whom a little less than half are Catholics. We have 47 parishes, each of which has 20 mission churches on average, served by 130 priests. Therefore, each priest serves about 10,000 Catholics, and visits each village for Mass and the sacraments every couple of months.
As the Church of Christ, our mission is to bring Jesus to people, spiritually through the Word and Sacrament, but also through works of mercy. Like your own priests, our priests celebrate the sacraments, teach, and nourish the spiritual lives of the people in the churches. Together with religious members, they run schools, orphanages, hospitals, provide clean drinking water, support peasant farmers, and especially the care of girls and women, who are neglected in many communities. When my parishioners pray the Lord’s Prayer and say, “Give us this Day, our daily bread,” they are asking not just for the Body and Blood of Christ, but also that the Lord provide for their daily needs of clean water, food, medicine, education and shelter.
Like most low-income countries, the average income of our parishioners is rather limited, about $1,000 per family per year, which comes mainly from small-scale farming. Yet despite their meager resources, the people support this work of the Church to the best of their ability. But we have far more needs than local income is able to support. That is why we are extremely grateful that your diocese and parish invite us to make this appeal to you. We are grateful to have you as our brothers and sisters in Christ and in mission.
